About Us.
The Screw & Bolt Size Identifier was born out of a common workshop frustration: standing in a garage, holding a mystery fastener, and wondering if it is an M4 or a #8-32. Traditionally, finding the answer meant digging through a messy drawer of matching nuts, using a hard-to-read plastic gauge, or driving to the local hardware store.
We believed there was a better way. By leveraging modern web standards, we designed a digital workspace that turns any smartphone, tablet, or laptop screen into a calibrated, high-precision measurement tool.
Precision Engineering, Client-Side
Our tool is built on two core principles: absolute precision and complete privacy.
- DPI Calibration: Because physical screen sizes and resolutions vary wildly, a standard CSS millimeter is rarely 1:1 on physical hardware. Our interactive calibration wizard solves this by using standard credit cards or coins as physical reference markers to calculate your screen's exact pixels-per-millimeter (DPI) ratio.
- Hygienic Camera Overlay: Screws in a workshop are often covered in grease and dust. To prevent users from scratching or dirtying their screens, we developed a mobile-friendly camera overlay mode. By placing a coin next to the screw, the camera feed is calibrated in 3D space, allowing touchless thread pitch matching.
Open & Free
This website is entirely free to use, ad-free, and open. All measurements, calculations, and camera feeds are processed locally on your device—nothing is ever uploaded to a server.
We hope this tool saves you time on your next project, whether you are building a custom 3D printer, repairing a car, or assembling furniture.
